SHSP Strategy Implementation Support
The Safety Center serves as the outreach and communication arm for Louisiana’s Strategic Highway Safety Plan (SHSP) efforts. Our staff take the lead in facilitating the SHSP’s Communication’s Coordinating Council.
Our staff work with prominent transportation safety leaders from the Louisiana Department of Transportation & Development (DOTD), the Louisiana Highway Safety Commission (LHSC) and Louisiana State Police (LSP) to ensure congruency between two statewide safety-focused plans, the Strategic Highway Safety Plan (SHSP) and the Highway Safety Plan (HSP). The MAP-21 bill, now FAST Act, requires close coordination of the planning process, implementation and outcomes of both plans.
The Safety Center is positioned to support DOTD’s leadership of the Strategic Highway Safety Plan (SHSP). The SHSP requires involvement and cooperation of various stakeholder groups with different levels of expertise in road safety. Support for these efforts is provided through:
The LCTS Staff works closely with Louisiana DOTD’s Highway Safety Section staff to provide technical assistance to state, regional and local stakeholders involved in the implementation of SHSP.
