Course Descriptions
MicroStation XM Level I –A four day course for the student who has knowledge of Microsoft Windows and needs to learn the basic concepts of CADD. This course is designed to teach the basic concepts of the MicroStation program interface, 2D File creation, and design file editing. It also includes the fundamental concepts of the basic program, settings, and configurations; creating and manipulation basic 2D design files; and the systems capability to analyze the drawing. This course covers the new features and capabilities of MicroStation V8 XM enhancements. The major new capabilities of V8 XM edition are covered in a series of hands-on exercises. Learn about Task based interfaces and Project Explorer among other topics. Learn how to transition easily from MicroStation V8 to XM and how to apply the new interface tools.
Prerequisite: Introduction to Windows or equivalent experience
MicroStation XM Level II –A four day course designed to teach the essential concepts necessary to become a more proficient user of the MicroStation program utilities and commands. Then course includes; the essential commands and features; the advantages of creating elements with associate capabilities; new complex design elements; new concepts which can be used to improve the editing process; control over element manipulation using new precision editing features; specialized selection techniques; annotation and specialized text placement tools; and how to enhance the design using concepts of patterning, dimensioning, and symbol creation.
Prerequisite: MicroStation Level I
MicroStation XM Level III -A four day course that builds on the concepts and skill obtained by the student in Levels I and II. After completion of Level III the student will have developed an understanding of the program interface and will have overall knowledge to exercise a greater control over the program. This course is designed to help improve the user’s ability to operate the program more effectively. The course will include: how to control features of he program to produce drawings with greater efficiency; increase productivity by using specialized search filters to improve the editing process; how to recognize erroneous settings and viewing controls which can cause design file problems; troubleshooting errors and setting found in some design file problems; how to take advantage of settings in external resource files; how to export and import numeric data from a design file; and multi-level drawing management.
Prerequisite: MicroStation Level II
MicroStation XM Update –A two day course that covers many of the new features and capabilities of MicroStation V8 XM Edition with an emphasis on user interface and productivity gains. All of the major new capabilities of V8 XM Edition are covered in a series of hands-on exercises. Learn about Task based interfaces and Project Explorer among other topics. You will become familiar with many of the new features of MicroStation V8 XM Edition and be able to operate the software and new features confidently and productively.
Prerequisite: MicroStation Level II
MicroStation 3-D XM Basics - A three day course that is for experienced users and explores MicroStation’s 3-D capability in detail and provides detailed coverage of the most popular concepts and tools in MicroStation’s 3-D environment, including 3D primitives, surfaces and 3D view controls. The course includes discussions of drawing composition and an introduction to MicroStation rendering, including lighting effects, camera setup and applying materials. You will learn a solid understanding of MicroStation’s 3D capabilities, ability to navigate and work in a 3D design file, ability to create and edit MicroStation 3D geometry (primitive elements through B-spline surfaces) and basic knowledge of MicroStation’s rendering capabilities.
Prerequisite: MicroStation Level II or MicroStation Update
Applying DOTD CADD Standards –A one day course that provides instruction in the use of DOTD CADD Standards and functionality of standards management software. The course includes instruction in the operation of Altiva ControlCAD CADconform for MicroStation (DGNconform), Control CADD Indexer, and MicroStation workspaces in the LA DOTD environment.
Applying InRoads – ETRN# U9010B – A four day course designed for those who wish to use the InRoads software for design and evaluation of transportation corridors and other large-scale CE projects. Covers application and project setup, surface modeling, design parameters, earthworks, alignment design, and reports.
Prerequisite: MicroStation Level II, Update & 3D
Advanced InRoads –A four day course designed for civil engineers and designers with previous InRoads, InXpress or SiteWorks experience. It focuses on utilizing some of the more complex road and site design functions contained in these applications. Students will complete example design problems that illustrate the topics covered in the course.
Prerequisite: Applying InRoads
InRoads Upgrade – A two day course designed for experienced users of previous versions of InRoads who wish to shorten the learning curve on the newest version features.
Prerequisite: Applying InRoads
Applying InRoads Survey –A two day course designed for operators who have a general knowledge of MicroStation and are interested in raster data manipulation. The course presents and overview of the product setup and IRAS B file information, although the major emphasis is in the area of raster data manipulation. The students loads a binary raster file in the MicroStation environment and performs several edit and design functions, including introduction new data, cleaning up existing data, and warping the scanned image. The course includes a brief overview of plotting as it relates to raster files.
Prerequisite: Ability to use MicroStation with at least 80 hours of hands-on experience; Familiarity with MicroStation 3D Basics; Familiarity with survey terms and concepts.
Applying InRoads Storm & Sanitary –A three day course designed for civil engineers and designers with previous InRoads, InXpress or SiteWorks experience. It focuses on utilizing some of the more complex road and site design functions contained in these applications. Students will complete example design problems that illustrate the topics covered in the course.
Prerequisite: Applying InRoads
ProjectWise Fundamentals – A one day course that provides instruction in the fundamentals of operating ProjectWise and managing drawings in the DOTD ProjectWise Environment. This course covers basic ProjectWise functionality and settings and the use of DOTD environments, interfaces, workflows and project templates. It also includes how to load files into ProjectWise and resolve reference files.
