Thanks to a work zone safety grant from FHWA, the American Traffic Safety Services Association (ATSSA) will be offering their Traffic Control Technician Course to Local Public Agency (LPA) personnel, and others, in June of 2015. Completion of this course is a requirement for contractors and inspectors on most construction projects in Louisiana involving State or Federal funds. This course also provides valuable information for engineering, public works, and supervisory employees in the public sector. The cost of this course is only $25 for public agency employees, the remainder being subsidized by the FHWA grant. This course features new "Louisiana Specific" standards now used in all Federal and State funded projects in Louisiana and are included on DOTD's Traffic Control Detail Standard Plans.


The Traffic Control Technician (TCT) Louisiana Specific Course will be held on March 2, 2016, at TTEC, and it is a one-day introductory training course that focuses on the principles surrounding temporary work zone traffic control.

This one day course will instruct the participants in Louisiana specific principals of temporary traffic control as set forth in the LADOTD Traffic Control Details, the LADOTD Qualified Product List, the Louisiana Standard Specifications for Roads and Bridges, and the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD).  Students will gain practical knowledge, techniques, and instruction on the installation and maintenance of traffic control devices on Louisiana roadways.  Participants will complete an exam at the end of the session and must pass with an 80% or higher.  This basic course is a prerequisite to the Traffic Control Supervisor Louisiana Specific Training course.  This course will have to be re-taken every (4) four years as required by LADOTD and ATSSA.
