Course Description:
This course covers the basics of setting up and running an optical level for determining elevations and setting grades for typical public works applications, such as cleaning or excavating drainage ditches, laying pipes, etc. Both classroom instruction and hands-on field exercises will be included. The course content also includes a review of basic math skills related to leveling and grade-setting tasks.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND:
This course is intended for employees with little or no experience in performing leveling and grade-setting tasks, and is not intended for employees who are experienced in this area of work.

Please register early, as the class size is limited! [LTAP may add additional sessions, depending on the response received.]

Enrollment, Registration, and Cancellation Policy:
Pre-registration is required one week in advance. Registration is $25.00 for municipal or public sector per-sonnel and $50.00 for all others. This fee covers all materials, breakfast, and lunch. Registrants will receive a confirmation of their reservation. If we do not have 72 hours advanced notice that you will not attend the semi-nar, your registration fee will be forfeited. If an agency is unable to mail in the registration fee before the dead-line, please phone, FAX, or e-mail the LTAP office with the names of the workshop participants (800-595-4722 in-state or 225-767-9117; FAX 225-767-9156)

INSTRUCTORS:
Bobby Hennigan, P. E., P.L.S. is the retired DOTD District 07 Engineer Administrator. In addition to this position, his 34 year career with LA DOTD also included experience as the Assistant District 07 Construction Engineer and as a Resident Construction Engineer, where his responsibilities included the layout of numerous highway and bridge construction projects. Bobby currently performs surveying and construction layout for the firm of FBL & Associates of Bossier City, LA.

Robbie Mays, P.E., recently retired from LA DOTD after a 30-year career that included work in the areas of construction contract administration, materials and testing, and maintenance operations. In his last position, he served as Assistant District Administrator for Engineering in District 08. During his career, Robbie's responsibilities included construction layout on numerous highway and bridge construction projects, including multiple sections of Interstate 49.

Nick Verret, P.E., has been the LTAP Program Manager since October, 2011, after retiring as the DOTD District 08 Engineer Administrator. During his 31-year career, Nick also had experience in the areas of construction contract administration, design, and water resources, including responsibility for the layout of numerous highway, bridge, and other public works projects.
