Why Join Phi Kappa Phi?

If you are invited, this important message is for you. Phi Kappa Phi is not a fraternity, but it is a very prestigious Honor Society. Membership is by invitation only and you have been invited to join because when compared to your peers at LSU you rank far above most of them. As the invitation indicates, if you are a Junior you are in the top 7.5 percent of your class and if you are a senior or a graduate student then you are in the top 10 percent of your class.

Phi Kappa Phi is one of the oldest and most prestigious Honor Society in the United States dating back to 1897. Some notable members include Presidents of the United States (Jimmy Carter for one), Presidents of Universities (like James Monroe Smith, President of LSU from 1930 to 1939), well-known authors (including John Grisham), actresses, Presidents of other countries, United States Cabinet members (Hillary Clinton-Secretary of State), United States Vice-Presidents (Al Gore), Nobel Prize winners, Governors of various states (including our own Kathleen Blanco), CEO's of major companies (Robert A. McDonald with Procter & Gamble), various United States Senators and Representatives, just to name a few. See https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Phi_Kappa_Phi#Notable_members for a longer list of notable members. Membership in Phi Kappa Phi sets you apart from others and puts you in the company of many of the great leaders of our country and the world.

For more information about benefits of being a member, please browse the Phi Kappa Phi website: http://www.phikappaphi.org/members#.XFis8VVKguU. A few of the immediate benefits of being a member of the LSU Chapter include being able to apply for some of the Phi Kappa Phi awards given out every year on campus and the ability to include membership on future applications to graduate school or medical school or some other professional school. It also includes recognition in the graduation program when you earn your degree from LSU. Membership also gives you the opportunity to give back to others with some of our volunteer opportunities on campus (GEAUX Big in the Spring and a Phi Kappa Phi Book Drive). You can also participate and help out (be there help set up tables, etc) with our Evening With Great Authors which is an annual event that supports adult literacy in Baton Rouge. For the last two years we have also had a table at Fall Fest.

I do hope that you will consider joining Phi Kappa Phi. It is a great organization that has has a presence on the LSU campus since 1930.
