The Bipartisan Infrastructure Law

Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, various transportation snapshots

On November 15, 2021, President Biden signed the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA) (Public Law 117-58, also known as the “Bipartisan Infrastructure Law” or BIL) into law. The Bipartisan Infrastructure Law is the largest long-term investment in our infrastructure and economy in our Nation’s history. It provides $550 billion over fiscal years 2022 through 2026 in new Federal investment in infrastructure, including in roads, bridges, and mass transit, water infrastructure, resilience, and broadband.

Bridge Investment Program

This is a competitive, discretionary program that focuses on existing bridges to reduce the overall number of bridges in poor condition, or in fair condition at risk of falling into poor condition. It also expands applicant eligibilities to create opportunity for all levels of government to be direct recipients of program funds. Learn more. The Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) is now out. Reconnecting Communities Pilot Program (RCP)

The Reconnecting Communities Pilot Program (RCP) was established to provide up to $1 billion of funds that can support planning, capital construction, and technical assistance to equitably and safely restore community connectivity through the removal, retrofit, mitigation, or replacement of eligible transportation infrastructure facilities that create barriers to mobility, access, or economic development. Louisiana Federal Lands Access Program (FLAP FFY 2023-2026)

Application Deadline July 1, 2022

An estimated total of $4.3M will be available for FLAP project funding in Louisiana. FLAP bridge projects will processed through Louisiana DOTD. All other projects, including roads, will be processed through FHWA's Eastern Federal Lands Division or the appropriate Federal Land Management Agencies (FLMA) unit. Projects considered for funding include capital improvements such as rehabilitation, restoration and construction of roads, bridges and multiuse trails. Enhancements like trailheads, pedestrian and bicycle provisions, trail signing and kiosks are also considered. Click here to learn more about FLAP LA.

Safe Streets for All (SS4A) Grant Program

The Safe Streets for All Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) is now out and can be found at This is open to individual communities, or groups of communities and may include Metropolitan Planning Organizations (MPOs), counties, cities, towns, other special districts that are subdivisions of a state, certain transit agencies, federally recognized Tribal governments, and multi-jurisdictional groups.
