Research
The LTRC research program emphasizes applied research and technology transfer to further knowledge in the field of transportation and to solve transportation
problems encountered by DOTD and the general transportation community. Input for research programs is solicited from state and local government, universities, and private
industry.
The program is accomplished through four organizational groups:
Materials Research
Pavement Systems Research
Geotechnical Research
Special Studies Research
Approximately half of the research budget is used to fund contract research studies with Louisiana universities.
Research and development's technical assistance program provides analysis and recommendations to field and design engineers for quick turnaround problem solving. Often this
requires a field visit to observe a construction problem, with associated field or laboratory tests resulting in a recommended change in specifications, design details, or
construction procedures.
Descriptions of ongoing research projects and summaries of completed research are presented through project capsules and technical summaries, available for download from the
publications page, along with current editions of the LTRC newsletter, Technology Today, and the LTRC Editorial Guidelines.
