Co-op Program

The DOTD co-op program is a cooperative endeavor between the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) and Louisiana universities with accredited engineering programs, providing practical experience to civil, mechanical, environmental, electrical, industrial, biological, and chemical engineering students through employment in public sector transportation engineering work. The DOTD Co-op program is intended to enhance the educational process by providing opportunities for participants to explore their interest in transportation engineering through practical experience. The program also provides opportunities for DOTD to evaluate participants as potential employees. Undergraduate students are employed year round in positions related to their major engineering field of study: civil, mechanical, environmental, electrical, industrial, biological, or chemical engineering.

For students on semester terms, applications will begin being accepted on the following dates until positions are filled:
June 1 - Fall Semester
November 1 - Spring Semester
April 1 - Summer Semester

For students on quarter terms, applications will begin being accepted on the following dates until positions are filled:
June 1 - Fall Quarter
October 1 - Winter Quarter
January 1 - Spring Quarter
April 1 - Summer Quarter

Selected students must have the endorsement of their university and must be classified as an undergraduate junior or senior in one of the acceptable disciplines of engineering. Prior to acceptance into the program, a work assignment must be determined and mutually accepted by DOTD, the university, and the student. In addition to the opportunity to receive university academic credit, participating students earn a salary commensurate with their academic level, experience, and ability.
